Frida

Artist Statement: “Frida”, 10 x 17 ft, medium: spray paint, acrylic latex paint. Funded by After School Matters, created by BLOOM @ Prosser H.S. youth (a ASM program), instructed and led by David Gauna. The youth within BLOOM @ Prosser reflected in the lack of Latinx representation within public art in the Belmont Cragin, Chicago community. Belmont Cragin, mostly a hispanic/latin community on the northwest side of Chicago. Together, a group of 15 youth participated in the design, outreach and creation to paint this mural of Frida. Frida, an iconic well recognized individual within the Latinx, Mexican communities across the world for her art and relationship to well known artist, Diego Rivera.
