“Unity Through Struggle”

Artist Statement: “Unity Through Struggle”, 6 x 11 ft, wood panel,  medium: acrylic paint, pray paint, liquid ink, and wood. Commissioned by Aunt Martha’s, in partnership with the Healing Illinois, a racial healing initiative of the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDPH), funding organizations to begin, or continue, the work in racial healing. Artist, David Gauna, engaged a small collective of youth within a series of virtual workshops: 1) building community, 2) racial equity 101, 3) Art & Activism. Preparing the group of youth through a meaningful experience that built consensus to collective agree in what this design will look like and who is it for.
