Artist Statement:
"Oscar Blooms"** is an experimental piece inspired by storyteller Oscar. Drawing from Catholic portraits of saints and Renaissance artworks, I aim to portray gay and queer Latinx men in moments of vulnerability, honoring their image with saint-like glows, including gold halos. Many queer Latinx individuals grow up worshiping images of white saints and Jesus, often without seeing themselves represented in such powerful light.
This piece is part of a larger collection that explores the diverse stories and portraits within the GBTQ+ Latinx community. It creates space for individuals to reflect on their own journeys with femininity, machismo culture, and self-healing.
